Cells
Cells are made from different types of optical glass, optical special
glass, quartz glass and special materials; essential criteria for
selection being the spectral range which a cell is required to cover
and its operating conditions. Each Hellma cell is marked with a material color code according to its spectral range.
Generally, our glass materials can be divided into two groups – that of quartz glass types and that of optical glass types.
Generally, our glass materials can be divided into two groups – that of quartz glass types and that of optical glass types.
Quartz glass consists of silicon dioxide (SiO2) only. These types of glass provide some
remarkable features:
Common features of the second group – optical glass are:
remarkable features:
- Quartz glass features high UV-transmittance; with ultra-pure synthetic fused silica, this can be measured for wavelengths clearly below 200 nm.
- Quartz glass is known to experience very little thermal expansion, its linear expansion coefficient being 6·10-7 K-1 at temperatures between 20 °C and 300 °C.
- Quartz glass is highly resistant to chemicals and dimensionally stable, even with temperatures up to approximately 1200 °C.
Common features of the second group – optical glass are:
- Cells used in the visible spectral range
- Selected glass brands provide a relatively small refractive index and little color
dispersion and
- Their good chemical resistance
We would be pleased to send you our special “Cells” product overview. It contains the current offering of various cells, including specimen slides of quartz glass and highrefractive brands of glass. We can also provide specially designed and custom-manufactured cells.
We would also like to draw your attention to the overall product line of Hellma GmbH & Co. KG. In addition to cells, it includes calibrations standards, fiber-optical systems and accessory items. The overall product portfolio can be viewed at:
